Project ‘Fantasie Impromptu’

We have recently acquired a digital piano, making  our little flat the official cultural epicenter of our complex. My lovely fiancé is somewhat of a piano savant and hearing the beautiful notes waft through the place creates a beautiful and romantic atmosphere. I, on the other hand am no piano savant, in fact the only thing that I can play is ‘Chop Sticks’. I do however ache to be able to play. So my dear man has taken it upon himself to teach me. My first request; Chopin’s ‘Fantasie Impromptu’.

Yes, I know that this is far too ambitious and that I will probably only be able to play this by the time I’m 50, if at all, but I am in love with this piece of music and so far I can play about 10 notes *happiness *

Just to give you a bit of context on the piece:

It was composed in 1834 (one of 4 impromptu’s composed) and was dedicated to Julian Fontana, who published the piece in 1855 in spite of Chopin’s request not to do so.  Chopin was very unhappy with the piece and never intended that it be published because he felt that it was too similar to Beethoven’s ‘Moonlight Sonata’, there is something so tragic about Chopin’s self doubt and this tragic complexity is one of the many reasons that I love this piece of music.
